After more than seven years since their last release, alternative rock/emo trio Belle have made their long-awaited return with their deeply personal and anthemic new single, “Rudy,” out now via Pale Chord/Rise Records BMG. Speaking on the meaning and inspiration behind the new single, vocalist and guitarist Joey Lancaster shares:
“‘Rudy’ is a song about being in the observant role when someone you care about is struggling through a difficult time, whether that be depression, self-doubt, or something else entirely. It's about trying to find that balance between being understanding and supportive while also knowing when to give someone space. Ultimately, it's about reminding them that they are only as alone as they choose to be.”
“Rudy” marks Belle's first new release since their 2019 fan-favorite single “February,” which has since amassed nearly 2.5 million streams on Spotify alone. Following an extended hiatus from releasing music, the trio, consisting of Joey Lancaster (vocals/guitar), Matt Coate (vocals/bass), and Roman Gonzales (drums/vocals), are entering a new chapter, one shaped by perseverance, personal growth, and a renewed appreciation for the opportunity to create and share music together.
Reflecting on the band's long-awaited return, Lancaster shares:
“Truthfully, we're just glad to be here. There's an overwhelming sense of gratitude. There was a period of time when I thought maybe it was over, that perhaps this just wasn't meant for us. Life got pretty hard, but we worked through it, and now we're finally here.
